5 New TikTok Editing Trends

Looking to up your marketing to Gen Z? TikTok is where you’re most likely to catch their eye. These short videos are attention grabbing and have enormous potential to create positive brand association.

Not sure where to start? Hiring a popular creator off the platform is a great way to reach a pre-established audience that will likely already be interested in your product.

But if YOU are the creator and are looking to grow your viewership, here are some current trends for you to adapt and make your own!

Time Lapse

@lara_cakeanything can make anything into a cake – and fast! Lara’s creations are stunning, but photos alone aren’t good enough for TikTok. But how do you fit hours of work into 15-60 seconds? Easy: time lapse it! She films certain parts of the process and then speeds them up so that you can get an idea of how each piece of her cake statue was made. It’s fascinating to watch as she showcases her amazing baking and cake decorating talents.

Body and Head Flip

@madmatthies is a fun creator who produces upbeat videos with her husky and her stellar transition skills. Maddie’s smiling face, quick movements, and sudden pop ups keeps the eye moving and provides a contagious energy where you can’t help but want to view more of her content. She flips her head and body across the room through tight editing and precise placement to ensure the transitions are seamless. Maddie was one of the original users who started these flipping transitions.

Runaway Aurora Challenge

@notoriuscree creates content to teach about his indigenous heritage. He dresses in ancestral garb and dances the way his ancestors once did to preserve their culture. His content is personal and unique to his heritage, and he knows how to implement trends into his content strategy. Here, he has integrated his traditional dance with the Runaway Aurora Challenge. The song provides a cue for when to pose, and all he has to do is land in a position that highlights his hoops. This is a beautiful filter that he implemented perfectly to fit with his brand.

Retro Filter

@katyasitak shows “throwback” to her younger days with an old camcorder-style filter to show what something would look like if it was a VHS from the ‘90s. Her mom poses as the “present day” Katya while the real Katya throws on the retro filter to pretend that’s what she looked like “back in the day.” The comments indicate almost everyone did a double take before realizing the clever transition she used. Any time you can get your viewer to watch your video again, you know you’ve made good content!

Teleporting Transition Granny

@restepepe has 2.7 million likes on her high-energy dancing video. The amount of transitions going on is almost dizzying, but it keeps the brain guessing about what she’s going to do next. Her vibrant costumes portray her as fun loving, and she defies all stereotypes of what type of content older people are supposed to produce. Everyone loves a creative, dancing granny!
